I’ve been hearing about this line for a long time. Lots of pro anglers have been using Sufix Advance Fluorocarbon before it hit the market and they were constantly singing its praises. Whether they were lauding its soft feel, strength or abrasion resistance, I heard a bunch of good things about it. I have finally had a chance to test this new fluorocarbon fishing line for the last few months and it has certainly impressed me. If you’re wanting to try a new line this year, this one certainly belongs on your radar.

Here’s what I’ve found most noteworthy about it.

Handles beautifully

The most common complaint I hear about fluorocarbon fishing line is its inability to remain supple and memory free. I’ve tested dozens that feel almost like cardboard, so I certainly understand where anglers are coming from. It can be a nightmare on your reel.

Sufix Advance Fluorocarbon, however, feels just as soft as monofilament but without the constant kinks and wind knots. I’ve made hundreds of casts directly into a stiff wind while testing this line and I’ve had zero problems with wind knots or backlashes. Granted, some of that has to do with your specific reel settings, but the line also plays a large role in tangle-free casting.

Very abrasion resistant and sensitive

I love throwing a crankbait, so I’ve had a lot of experience cranking rock and other hard spots with this line. I’ve been pretty blown away by its abrasion resistance. I can crank riprap for hours with very little retying and if I’m dragging a jig or big worm underneath a dock, it handles those gnarly cross braces and rusty nails with ease.

The shock resistance is also great. I’ve purposely performed a lot of slack-line hooksets while testing Sufix Advance Fluorocarbon and I have not had a single line or knot failure. So if you get a big bite and it runs right at the boat, don’t be afraid to lay the wood to ’em if they’re just a few feet away. This line will be able to handle it without any issues.

Good knot strength

Again, I have had no knot failures while I’ve been testing this line over the past three months. Whether I’m cranking, flipping, pitching or chucking a ChatterBait across a big grass flat, my knots have held without any issues.

And before anyone asks, I’m don’t go crazy over fishing knots. I tie a traditional Palomar knot and it rarely fails me. So I haven’t been relying on complex knots while testing this line. I can tie a Palomar knot in about five or ten seconds and have all the confidence in the world that this line will hold up to the challenge.

Final impressions

This is one of the more supple fluorocarbons I’ve used in recent memory, but don’t mistake its soft feel for weakness. It has some serious grit to it when you need it. If you have a hankering to try a different fluorocarbon line, I’d strongly suggest giving one spool of Sufix Advance Fluorocarbon and honest chance. I bet you’ll be back for more.
