Most bass anglers use fluorocarbon line when fishing bladed jigs, but what about braid? South Florida bass pro, Jessie Mizell, prefers zero stretch braided line over fluorocarbon line when fishing ChatterBaits around grass and dirty water. He shares his reasoning, once again confirming there’s no “right fishing line” for specific applications.

For Jessie, sensitivity and bait control are the top benefits of braid. Like monofilament line, fluorocarbon has significant stretch, which can dampen the feel of the bait; this leads to misinterpreting bites as grass and vice-versa. Braid, on the other hand, crisply telegraphs how the lure is running. Zero stretch allows Mizell to clear the bait from cover and impart action through quick pops of the rod.

Don’t overlook the importance of selecting the right rod when fishing ChatterBaits, and especially so with a braided mainline. Mizell advises using a powerful rod but one with a more moderate taper/action to avoid pulling the bait away from bass when you have a bite.
